Underground pipe network is the material basis which a city depends on. The heat supply pipe network is an important part. For some reasons, the data of them is incomplete and inaccurate, which brings about some difficulties on searching and updating.It also causes us hard to master the heat pipe network’s situation,direction and the depth. So, It is a significant revolution to build a heat supply pipe network GIS instead of the traditional management methods in heat pipe supply network area.The paper studies a college’s heat supply pipe network as an object.By using available 2D spacial data, the 3D model of heat supply pipe network is introduced into GIS, and we have researched the exploring, query, visualization and others. The 3D model of heat supply pipe and other accessories are built and rendered by using VC++6.0 programming environment and OpenGL. So a software system has been built, and some interactive operations are supplied in it. As there are many kinds of figures in the scene, in order to render them, there is a need to store different points. So, those different figures are classified in different class, and save them in different self-definition format files. The 3D model can be constructed by reading these files.(1) Data processing in 3D heat supply pipe network, including 2D data’s treatment and the third dimension data’s calculated and statistical work.(2) The research of modeling method in 3D heat pipe supply network and the model’s creating.(3) Visualization and roam in 3D heat pipe supply network.(4) The database’s building;(5) The pick-up operation in 3D heat pipe network and query of pipelines.
