Research and Development of 3D Geological Modeling and Visualization System (3DGMS) Based on Borehole Data

Digital Mine is mining science and technology innovation and development strategy of using information technology to transform the traditional industry under the new economy of the 21st century, the study and realization of digital mining information system has extremely important realistic meanings to mining enterprises sustainable development. Meanwhile, mine is a real 3d dynamical geographical and geological environment, all of the mining things are performed in real 3d dynamical geographical and geological environment. To realize digital mining really we must realize the simulation of real 3d environment, namely must take 3d geological modeling as base, 3d geological modeling is the key technology to implement digital mining strategy, the theoretical study and software development is playing an important role in digital mining. The paper discussed the method and process of 3d geological modeling and visualization by studying 3d data model and structure, and realized the 3d geological modeling system development. Main contents include as following aspects(1) Based on the study of 3d data model, according to the characteristics of borehole data, completed the design of data structure of 3d geological object including strata, fault, ore body, etc by using the method of object oriented analysis and design, discussed geological database design based on borehole data, and realized database storage and management of borehole geological information.(2) Based on the study of the technology of spatial interpolation, triangulation and visualization, according to the characteristics of 3d geological object, constructed strata by using GTP model, reconstructed geological ore body by using 2d contour, constructed surface by using Grid and TIN model, realized the 3d geological modeling of strata, fault, ore body, roadway and collapse area, discussed the technology and method of 3d geological modeling and visualization.(3) Based on OpenGL library and GIS component, a 3d geological modeling and visualization system is designed and developed in VC ++6.0, it has realized the function of 3d modeling and visualization of strata, ore body, fault, surface, roadway, and etc, and it has realized the function of 3d view control flexibly and the function of spatial query, measurement, spatial clipping, dynamic simulation and partly spatial analysis. (4) By means of the study of the process of 3d geological modeling and visualization for a complete mining area, represented visually the spatial distribution of geological unit and their relationship, provided effective technology means to the study of mining area metallogenic regularity and prognosis ,and mining engineering design. It ensures mining area exploration design scientific, lowers the exploration risk, and improves mineral exploration efficiency greatly.
